Comments: Today we had such a busy class that we even ran over the clock :). After our shlokas and bhajans, we did Geeta chanting. The children are doing super duper in their recitations. Keep up the good work kids. Parents, we can't emphasis enough about registering for the geeta chanting presentation. They are all doing so well and we are so, so proud of them. Please make sure you register all your children. Could use the link above to do it online.

We heard the story of Ganesha and Kubera. We saw how Kubera was so proud of his riches and wanted to show off. But Ganesha sure taught him his lesson. He ate up all the food for the entire party and said he was still hungry. Kubera ran to Lord Shiva for help. When Parvathi offered Ganesha only one modak with love, He felt full. Kubera was humbled by this and learnt to never feel proud of his possessions. Our really, really smart children understood the purpose of the story so well (see snippets).

After enjoying the snack and juice, the children joined numbered dots 1 through 80, to reveal a picture of Ganesha! What wonderful artists we have in our class!! We saw some beautiful pieces of art, when the children colored their pictures and brought proudly for us to see. We were so engrossed with the activity that we ran over time too!

We then learnt something new in sankrit. We learnt to say sanskrit alphabet (vowels) अ आ इ ई ..... अं अः (a aa i I ..... aM aH). They found the अः (aH) sound very funny and burst into giggles every time we said that :).

We then reviewed our gaNeshaH vadati game and expended all that extra energy by jumping in response to उत्पततु (utpatatu - jump). We had so much fun that we did not even have enough time to do our yoga segment today.

Until next week, have fun, stay warm and DO NOT forget to register for the geeta chanting :)

Snippets: After the story, aunty was testing the kids. She asked, is it nice to say to a friend, 'I've more toys, better toys. My red car is better than yours, etc.' Our toddler immediately says, 'No! That is not nice to say.... Every one has nice cars!' Such a beautiful thought and so simply put, too!!

Comments: Wow! It sure feels good to be back at balavihar on Sunday mornings. Good job kids. You had all been practicing all the shlokas, etc. through the break. We could certainly see that. Geeta chanting was fabulous today! The first 3 shlokas came wonderfully!! The candies that you earned at the end of the class were definitely not as sweet as your chanting!! We are so, so proud of you all - both children and parents - children for chanting, parents for making them (chant, that is) :). Make sure you all register for the presentation on May 2nd. You did so good that we started learning the 4th shloka today.

Have we told you that you are bunch of smart kids :). You guys were of great help during story time. You knew where the lion lives, what his food is, what his house is called, how a mouse runs, how strong his teeth are! Goodness, that is a lot of information. With all the above information, we heard the story of 'Lion and the mouse'. We learnt that 'a friend in need, is a friend indeed!' and also, size does not matter when it comes to friendship. The mouse sure was small, but it was of big help to the already big lion :).

We had extra dose of energy after snack time today. We had two snacks and juice as well - making up for the snow day apparently :). Numbers in sanskrit came in full blown volume and 'simhaasana' during yoga time was the 'funnest' (if that is a word) part! Wasn't it :)

Hope you didn't eat your candies in the auditorium.

Snippets: 1. The kids chant shlokas so well, aunties and uncle applaud them with - 'Good job!' every now and then. When that did not come right after a shloka ended, one of our littlest ones, very sweetly claps and says 'good job!'

2. During yoga time, uncle was showing 'vajraasana', facing the children. In order for the children to see the way his legs were, he turned back. One of our sweet toddlers thinks that is a part of the 'aasana' and he too, turns backwards, facing the wall :).

February 7th Class
