Once upon a time, there was a crow who lived in a big field.  He would fly around the village every day and ate the scraps that people threw out.
One day it hot, very hot.  Poor Mr. Crow had eaten a big big lunch.  His stomach was so full.  Now he was very thurrstyand he wanted a drink of water. He searched and searched all over the field.  All the little pools of water in the field had dried up in the hot sun.  There was no water anywhere!
Finally he saw a pot in the field and flew to see what was inside.  It was a tall pot, just about his height.  He peeked in and sure enough there was a little water in it.  He was so happy.  He stuck his beak in to get a drink.  But the water was way down in the pot and the crows beak would not reach it.
What is the poor crow to do.  He scratched his ear - have you ever seen a crow scratching his ear?
He tried to push the jar over so that the water would flow out.  He pushed and he pushed and pushed.  But the jar was too heavy.
So he thought again.  This time he got an even better idea.  So he looked for small pebbles in the field carried them over in his beak and started dropping them into the pot.  As the stones filled the pot, the water came up higher and higher and higher and finally reached the neck of the pot.  The crow could now reach the water.  He took a good drink and felt much better.
